EXAMINATIONS

The Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (I.S.T.D)

Here at DLDA we take part in regular I.S.T.D exams. The I.S.T.D is one of the worlds leading dance examination boards that is approved and regulated by Ofqual. I.S.T.D exams are accepted as part of the Government National Framework of Qualifications (NQF) meaning the qualifications achieved may be quotes as part of a students GCSE and A-Level qualifications.

All graded examinations are accredited as follows:

Grades 1,2 & 3 - NQF Level 1 (Equivalent to lower level GCSE)

Grade 4 & 5 - NQF Level 2 (Equivalent to higher level GCSE)

Grade 6 + - NQF Level 3 (Equivalent to A-Level)

From grade 6 upwards students will be awarded UCAS points which in the future can help towards their university applications if this is a path they want to take.

"Our clearly defined structure allows learning to take place in the context of safe dance practice and is designed to cater equally for those to wish to progress to making dance their profession, either as a performer or dance teacher, and for those pursuing dance purely as a leisure activity"

We use or experience and professional judgement to decide when students should be entered for an examination and we believe every student should have an opportunity to take an exam to encourage their confidence and allow them to be pushed to the next level in their time at dancing. They will receive a mark and certificate after their examination and its something we think every student should be very proud of.
